In the course of the 18th century, Friedrich II. turned Potsdam into one of Europe´s most impressive metropolises. His Sanssouci rococo castle rates among Germany´s most beautiful buildings.
Potsdam has been acting as a magnet for visitors up to the present. The French philosopher Voltaire as well as Chevalier de Seingalt, better known as Casanova, temporarily lodged in the Brandenburg capital.
Postdam has also become famous for its "Ufa-Traumfabrik" in the Babelsberg district, the great movie atelier which opened its gates in 1911 and which brought forth classis such as "The Blue Angel" featuring Marlene Dietrich,.
Postdam also named the most important treaty in Germany´s post war history, the famous Potsdam Agreement which was signed by the Allied Forces on August 2, 1945 at Cecilienhof castle.
